Meredith and Gary Healy are the friendly faces behind Battery World Albany.Meredith and Gary Healy's strong belief in their business – Battery World Albany- was rewarded at the 2011 Albany Chamber of Commerce and Industry Business Awards.

Battery World Albany won the ACCI Wignalls Wines Award for Micro Business and runners-up in the ACCI GWN7 Award for Best Franchise Business and ACCI Small Business Centre Great Southern Business Achiever Award.

"We get a lot of positive feedback from return customers, but it was definitely good to receive some recognition of our efforts," Meredith said.

"While the awards are a lot of work, they are definitely worth the effort. The scope of our business is so enormous it was a challenge to write everything up within the word limit of the award entry."

The Healy's have been at the helm of Battery World Albany since 2000 operating from 256 Albany Highway, and have just signed off on a 10-year renewal of their franchise.

The couple also run Healy Automotive Service which repairs and services all makes of motor vehicles and offer a 24-hour-a-day, seven-days-a-week emergency call-out service.

"We are the only dedicated battery store in Albany – there are lots of parts to the business and we enjoy it - every day is different," she said.

Product knowledge is one of their strengths with 10,000 product lines available. Then there is the workshop where Gary does battery fit-outs for caravans, buses - whatever comes through the door.

"Gary has such a broad knowledge - it's never too hard to help a customer. And if we don't have the answer we have a fantastic supplier base to call upon to help us out," Meredith said.

Battery World Albany supports the community through sponsorship of groups such as the Third Albany Scouts and Bremer Bay Sea Rescue, as well as Camp Quality nationally.

"When you work for yourself, you get out of it what you put into a business." Meredith said.

"The punishment for bad results is all yours - you are responsible for everything you sell," Gary said.

"Every day is different - always a challenge but we wouldn't have it any other way."
